Modern Foreign Languages

Our MFL department aim to make languages accessible for all.

Through the Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Curriculum at Ridgewood School we encourage students’ curiosity towards other cultures and develop their understanding of the wider world.

Our Modern Foreign Languages Curriculum ensures we achieve this by:

  • Having a developed curriculum that combines the learning of a foreign language with lessons about various aspects of a different culture; including festivals, food, sports and travel. By doing this, we hope to open up students’ minds to the possibility of living, working and travelling in different locations around the world, as well as giving them the skills to become proficient learners of a Modern Foreign language.
  • Teaching students to converse with others and to be able to express their ideas and thoughts clearly in another language, when speaking and/or writing.
  • Providing students with the vocabulary and skills to understand longer texts in a different language and to pick out key information when listening to native speakers.
  • Supporting students to build stronger communication skills and increased awareness of their own language. This helps to develop their literacy skills; thereby supporting their success in other subjects too.

Please get in touch via the enquiry form on our Contact Us page. Should you have any further questions about our MFL Curriculum please contact Mrs Ward, Curriculum Lead.
