Whole School Re-Opening
Ridgewood is open to all students in each year group from Monday 14 to Friday 18 December
11 December 2020
A reminder that everyone should return to school on Monday 14 December, unless they or someone in their household has symptoms of (or has) coronavirus.
We would like to thank all parents/carers for the support and well wishes during the temporary closure of our school. The decision to close was not taken lightly, but was a necessary measure to ensure the safety of everyone in our school community.
We are really looking forward to welcoming our students back into school on Monday morning.
The last two weeks have been a challenging time for us all. However, students’ engagement in remote learning, the hard work of staff (often when they have been ill themselves) and the support from parents/carers has been truly heart-warming. By the end of the school day today there will have been over 1200 live lessons delivered to Key Stage 4 and 5 since Monday 30 November, which we are particularly proud of. We have worked tirelessly to increase our capability to deliver live lessons and we hope that the students and parents/carers recognise the difference that this has made. We will continue to build on this with our improved bandwidth in the new year.
Health and safety
During the last week of term we need to maintain an orderly and Covid safe environment for our students, ahead of the Christmas break. We cannot, of course, eliminate all risks but our control measures are extensive to enable us to minimise them.
We would be grateful if parents/carers could remind all our students of the ways in which they too can keep themselves safe and prevent the spread of the virus:
- They must not mix with other year group bubbles.
- They must also wear their face coverings at all times when moving around the school site (wearing these in classrooms remains optional) and maintain social distancing wherever possible.
- They must wash/sanitise their hands regularly and they will be reminded to do this by staff, at key points throughout the day.
Students must not come to school if they are displaying any symptoms of coronavirus. They should have a test and parents/carers must inform the school of the result. In addition, students must not come to school if anyone in their household has symptoms of coronavirus, or has tested positive. Parents/carers must ensure that students adhere to self-isolation laws.
We are pleased to report that we have had no further confirmed cases since the beginning of the week, which reaffirms our decision to temporarily close the school to prevent further outbreak. However, we must not be complacent and must ensure we all adhere to health and safety advice.
Christmas jumper day
A reminder that it is our Christmas jumper/wear something festive non-uniform day for all students on Monday 14 December. Students and staff are asked to donate £1 on entry to school, to support Save the Children.
Christmas dinner will be available on Wednesday 16 December and students will have the option to purchase this at lunchtime in the Dining Hall.
Good behaviour rewards
Students in Key Stage 3 who are entitled to the good behaviour reward will be informed on Monday. These students will have an additional non-uniform day on Thursday 17 December. The same will apply for eligible students in Key Stage 4 on Friday 18 December.
A message from Mrs Jean Pickerill, Interim Head:
It will be with great sadness that I write my final letter to you next week. The students and staff at Ridgewood School are remarkable and I, just like you, am extremely proud of them all. It has been an absolute pleasure to take on the interim Headship of the school, even under the challenging circumstances that all schools across the country currently face. The resilience of our school community has been truly exceptional.
As always, if you have any queries, please use via the ‘Contact us’ facility on our website. This has proved invaluable throughout school closure, as we have been able to respond to all parents/carers in a timely manner.
