Villis and Phoenix shine in gig at the Dome
Ridgewood's bands wow on stage.
Following on from the 'Stage Invasion' event held recently at Ridgewood, last week saw Villis and Phoenix take to the stage at the Doncaster Dome.
The bands are both made up of students from Year 8 and Year 9. They had already impressed judges in the event's preliminary rounds.
Villis is made up of Ella Marsh, Owen Wright, Lewis Hair, Oscar Glover and Harvey Swallow.
Phoenix comprises Kye Gwynn, Josh Wood, Luca Grice, Sam Wagstaff and Joe Shaw.
On the night, they were competing against eleven other bands. Many of the students in the other bands were much older that those in Villis and Phoenix, but the Ridgewood bands didn't let that stop them shining. They took full advantage of the great opportunity to perform on a live stage at the Dome in front of 500 people. Parents and friends of the two groups did not let the bands down. They turned out in vast numbers to support the students.
The 'Stage Invasion' project is about giving young people a platform to perform, and all the bands on the night loved the chance to take to a large stage. However, there was also a competitive element to the project. An award for the best original composition was awarded to Villis! They will now look forward to performing at Higher Rhythm studios to record their single. This will then be on worldwide release and you will be able to find it on Spotify and iTunes!
Miss Walker, Head of Performing Arts, would like to thank all of the students who signed up and worked towards this project.
