Praise and Rewards
As a school, we love to reward our students when they get it right.
Effective praise provides students with positive reinforcement that enables them to succeed, motivates them to learn and increases their participation in class. Everyone values being praised and recognised for their efforts.
Ridgewood Points
Ridgewood Points can be awarded to students for work of an exceptional or outstanding standard, dynamic learning, good organisational skills, attendance and contribution to school life. Ridgewood Points are accumulated over the course of the academic year. Once earned, these points can be traded in by students for rewards and prizes.
Altus
Students who achieve successful Creating Futures monitoring receive the Altus award. The Latin word ‘altus’ means high, noble or profound. We thought this was an appropriate way to describe the students who achieve this status at Ridgewood, and so we developed the Altus reward scheme in order to recognise outstanding effort and attitude. As well as having a Latin meaning, we have also attributed the qualities of our Altus students to each letter of the word:
A is for attitude
L is for leadership
T is for teamwork
U is for understanding
S is for success
After Creating Futures data has been entered and distributed to students and their parents, those students who display a ‘Motivated’ or ‘Outstanding’ attitude in all their subjects will be rewarded with an Altus badge in a special celebration Altus assembly. Students who achieve Altus status gain privileges across the school including access to our Altus lounge, and can build up their ‘in-school CV’, ready to show to future education providers or employers.
Good behaviour rewards
Throughout the school year we also reward students who have an exemplary behaviour record. These rewards take place each term and students who are eligible for the reward can come to school in non-uniform. They also enjoy a lesson off timetable to celebrate with other eligible students in their year group.
Good behaviour challenge
In November each year, all students across KS3 and KS4 are issued with 10 Golden Tickets. The aim of this challenge is to have 10 Golden Tickets remaining at the end of a four-week period. Students lose tickets if they incur sanctions within school, such as a C3 or C4. All tickets that are saved by our students through good behaviour are entered in to a prize draw for each year group, where students can win some fantastic prizes. The prizes include ‘Love to Shop’ and Vue Cinema vouchers.
Attendance reward – pizza party
At Ridgewood we always strive to be the best we can be and as a school we promote positive attendance with all students. Each half term, the form group with the highest attendance in each year group is rewarded with a pizza party to celebrate their success.
